Pam Finn: 40 Digital Women to Watch 2020: Where Are They Now?

At the start of 2020, we were lucky enough to celebrate some of the most talented and inspirational women in digital at a fantastic in-person event: the Digital Women Awards. To recognise the ongoing outstanding achievements of our winners, we compiled Digital Women’s 40 Digital Women to Watch list. Over the next few weeks, to encourage and inspire you to enter yourself or nominate a fellow incredible woman for the 2021 Digital Women Awards, we’re bringing you this ‘40 Digital Women To Watch 2020: Where Are They Now?’ blog series, sharing top insights from some of the most inspiring women in digital.
Today, we’re chatting to Pam Finn (AKA PR Pam), the Director of Social TV at Hashtag Media, an innovative digital media agency bringing an alternative viewer experience to social media. Pam has more than 20 years’ experience working in the media industry, with her most recent accolades including Hottest Company of 2019 and Best PR Agency in Ireland 2020. Pam’s trailblazing mindset has inspired her to not only stay ahead of social media trends but create them as well, something which led her to win Highly Commended for the Digital Innovator of the Year award at the Digital Women Awards last year.
We asked Pam about her experience of being named one of the Top 40 Digital Women to Watch in 2020, her advice for women applying to this year’s awards and, of course, her favourite thing about Digital Women!
Last year you were named as one of Digital Women’s 40 Digital Women to Watch. Did you share the news with your community?
We shared the good news via a press release to news outlets here in Ireland. We also shared it on our social media channels.
How has your business improved since being featured as a Digital Woman to Watch and award winner?
Being recognised as one of the 40 Digital Women to Watch has had a profoundly positive effect on our business – it has reinforced my expertise to a wider audience and built loyalty and trust with current clients.
2020 didn’t quite turn out to be the year many of us had planned. How did the changing role of digital and tech-based businesses and the sudden increased reliance on digital in 2020 affect your business last year?
Luckily our business has been managed remotely since its inception over three years ago. We understood the importance and benefits of working in this space. When lockdown happened, we already had procedures in place to manage the business – we regularly used digital resources, and it ran seamlessly due to this. We were ahead of the curve, which gave us a benefit to hit the ground running during lockdown.
Do you have any advice for women who are considering entering themselves or nominating others for the Digital Women Awards?
Do it! Who knows what doors will open. It will also give you the confidence to achieve more – I didn’t expect to be shortlisted and it was one of the highlights of my career.
Are there any names that spring to mind that you think we should be watching out for 2021?
Norah Casey, founder of a major publishing group and mentor to hundreds of businesswomen. She is an innovator and visionary in the media space and has achieved so much through her career.
And finally, what is your favourite thing about the Digital Women community?
The support and expertise from women in all areas of digital media – I am always learning!
