How Self-Publishing Books Can Boost Your Brand

Ever thought of publishing a book, but wouldn’t know where to start when it came to the whole publishing process?

Well, now you don’t have to know! Self-publishing is more accessible than ever before, with platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), IngramSpark and more meaning you no longer a have to go down the traditional publishing route.

More great news? The demand for your book(s) is already there. The growth in popularity of eBooks and developments in eReading technology have led to a rise in sales of self-published media, presenting entrepreneurs and business owners with new opportunities to boost their brands.

If you have a talent, a concept, a story or a skill to share, there’s no better place for it than in a book.

Benefits of self-publishing for your brand

There are many key benefits of self-publishing when it comes to boosting your brand, particularly if you’re a small business owner or have a limited budget:

There is little to no set up costs

With self-publishing, the middle man (i.e. the traditional publishing process) is cut out, making the whole process a lot cheaper. This lowers the bar for solopreneurs, entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to boost their brand on a budget.

There’s no need for storage or extra stock

Self-publishing means you can use print-on-demand technology, which in turn means no extra stock is held and no storage is needed, saving you valuable space and money. There’s also no outlay for print production if you decide to publish your book electronically.

You can reach a greater audience more quickly

Again, because self-publishing cuts out the middle man, it gives you the opportunity to reach more people more quickly. With Amazon KDP, for example, your book will be available to purchase worldwide within 24-72 hours!

You can publish what you want on your own terms

Self-publishing gives you the ability to publish a variety of book and eBook formats, including low or no content books like notebooks. You’re also able to brand your books however you like and can them use them as a lead generation tool, or to generate passive income for your business.

Top tips

Some of Beckie’s top tips for brands looking for a boost with self-publishing?

  1. Do your own research into different platforms and the costs included. Each book and platform will be different, so it’s important to stay in the know and keep track of costs to ensure self-publishing is helping you to achieve your brand goals.

  2. Decide which parts of the self-publishing process you can do yourself and which you may need to outsource. Everyone has different skills and no one’s good at everything, so it’s reasonable to assume you’ll need some help somewhere along the way!

  3. Be prepared to invest time into learning new skills, especially if you do identify something you can’t do (or can’t do well) yourself.
