This Speaker Spotlight highlights: Georgina Thomas, Marketing & Communications Manager and Freelancer, Tellus Media and Tilhill and her skills session:

Going Green – A Digital Path to Sustainability

Let’s learn more about Georgina:

I studied Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at the University of Greenwich whilst working on a market stall and operating a women’s clothing boutique which somehow led me to live in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador on a conservation expedition, upon my return I spent 10 years marketing tech startups, music artists, politics, fashion and charities before taking a part-time role in marketing environment focused companies; Tilhill, the UK’s leading forestry, timber harvesting and landscaping company; CarbonStore a company that provides the vital link to help landowners to sell and companies to buy certified and legally recognised Woodland and Peatland Carbon Units and Maelor Forest Nurseries, the UK’s most progressive commercial tree nursery.

I have spent the past 6 years as an elected local Councillor and in 2021, I launched Tellus Media (meaning Mother Earth) alongside a freelance team offering marketing services for charitable, land management, waste management and hospitality clients from across the UK whilst completing a Masters in Sustainable Development at the University of Sussex.

First off – What do you love about Digital Women Events?

Digital Women events are inspirational in shaping a sustainable and equitable digital economy and society.

What does your session focus on and how will attendees benefit?

Focusing on your environmental goals. How to reduce your business’s carbon footprint and how to reach and communicate those goals and achievements to your audience.

A company’s future success demands sustainable practices whether you are a business owner, employee or freelancer. Digital Women will learn how to take those first steps to going green by aiming for net zero operations and paying attention to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

What will be the key takeaways from your session?

How to start your sustainability journey. How to reduce your carbon footprint towards net zero. How to market your sustainability goals and achievements.

Whats the most exciting thing you’ve seen in DIGITAL in the last 12 months?

The growth of businesses opting in to become sustainable and using the digital tools available to report on their carbon footprint and create reduction targets.

What challenges do you feel you may be facing in the coming years with your role / business?

Facing a cost of living crisis in the UK will direct people away from the climate crisis meaning reaching the Paris goals will become even harder, but solving climate related issues within a business doesn’t cost more, especially as digital has paved the way to overcome these issues.

Finally, what would you like to see in digital in the future?

More goals achieved in sustainability and carbon reduction.
